Apple dumpling is a classic dessert already popular for many years. We sometimes miss the classics, but they are still the greatest. They have, after all, stood the test of time. You’ll see exactly why this is the case when you take a bite into an apple dumpling. A little history check, Apple dumplings were originally boiled and steamed, and the word itself comes from a German word, Dampf, which means steam. Nowadays, this aromatic dish is usually baked and filled with Granny Smith apples spiced and sweetened, previously cored, and peeled. Cinnamon is the key spice, though nutmeg and lemon zest are also popular.

If you’ve never had apple dumplings, you’re in for a rare treat. Whole apples are peeled, overlaid with cinnamon, and sugar rolled in flaky pastry dough and then baked in a spiced sauce until bubbling and syrupy. This recipe for Grandma’s Apple Dumplings is a delicious and simple recipe for apples wrapped in dough with an orange-vanilla sauce. I love adding vanilla ice cream on top of my dumplings.
